Steer Clear of Craps Proposition Bets

The craps proposition bets, or center bets, are those bets that are placed throughout a craps game. Within one throw of the dice, the player will either have won the bet or lost it. There is an exception to this rule, and that is the hardways wager, which could take a number of throws to determine whether the player or the online casino will be the winner of the bet.

Proposition Bets are Not a Good Bet

The odds of winning a craps proposition bet are not very good since the chance of throwing a very specific throw on the very next roll of the dice is not very likely. Having said that, however, all craps proposition bets are not equal. This is because the different number combinations will show up more or less frequently, depending on which combinations they are.

True Odds and Proposition Bets

Players who place wagers on Any Craps, numbers 2, or 12, or on Snake Eyes, where a players hopes that the throw will bring a double one, Yo-Eleven, and Craps 12, only have one chance of their throw appearing, since each of these numbers can only be made when each of the dice is showing a specific number. These wagers, of course, have the least chance of being paid out.

Craps Three is slightly better since the number three can be thrown by either a 2 and a 1, or a 1 and a 2, giving the player two chances of hitting this proposition bet. The odds, however, are not good.

Those who go for Any Seven have a slightly higher chance at winning their proposition bet, because a 7 can be made up of 6 and 1, or 1 and 6, 5 and 2, or 2 and 5, 4 and 3, or 3 and 4, which makes it more likely that a seven could be thrown. However, the payouts for Any Seven will be lower than for the other proposition bets because the casinos know the odds are greater of a seven being thrown.

It is important for players to remember that even if it is possible to get six different combinations that make up the number seven, the total number of possible dice combinations when throwing two dice is 36. This means that there are six chances out of 36 that the number seven will be thrown. This makes the real odds of throwing a seven on the next turn 1 in 6.

This also means that players who go for wagers that only have one chance of being thrown, are playing at the true odds of 1 in 36.

Players should keep an eye on how much the payout is. For example, Snake Eyes usually pays 30 to 1. The higher the payout, the less likely it is to be thrown, and therefore certainly better to avoid placing this bet.

For this reason, it is always best to steer clear of wagering on craps proposition bets.
