Although the chance to beat the casino when playing blackjack is small, there is still some chance that it can be done. The odds are not so greatly stacked in the casino’s favor as to remove the possibility of a good player having the chance to win.

In order to have the maximum chance at winning, players will need to learn to stack the odds in their favor. Players do need to rely somewhat on luck when playing blackjack, but the game can also be looked at mathematically, and by keeping track of the probability of getting the cards you may need.

In other gambling games, players often have to act blindly while playing, in the hopes of getting the cards that they need by luck. With blackjack, players can make use of certain formulas to help keep the odds in their favor as much as possible.

The main aim of the game is that players need to get a hand that is the closest to 21, but does not go over 21, which means that the hand would go bust, and automatically lose.

The dealer also has the same goal as the players, and also has certain guidelines that keep him or her within certain limits. For example, the dealer always has to stand when the dealer hand reaches 17. The rationale behind this is that even though the players may have a chance of beating this hand fairly easily, the chances of going bust when drawing another card on top of a value of 17 is fairly high.

Even though it is important for the player to remember that he/she is not the dealer, there are some important tips and lessons that can be learned from the dealer’s play, and learning when to stick is one of these lessons.

To understand the reason that the dealer sticks on 17, remember that when drawing a new card, it is more likely to be a card that has a value of 5 and over, rather than a card that has a value of 4 and lower. A value of 5 or higher would make the dealer bust, and therefore a win for the player/s. Casinos have rules that dealers have to follow, and players should remember that these rules were not made for no reason, but because the experts have worked out that mathematically, this would be a better play for the casino.

Unless you have been serious about card counting, it is probably best to help stack the odds in your favor by being careful to stick on 17, just as the dealer does.
