Responsible Gaming Education Week 2010
August 08, 2010 | News Category: Slots
This week, from the 2nd until the 6th August is the American Gaming Association's 13th annual Responsible Gaming Education Week. The IGT (International Game Technology) along with many in the gaming industry help to support this week. The idea of the week is to help to increase the general awareness about responsible gaming. The target audience is fairly broad, with casino customers, gaming employees, and the general public being targeted.
While the Responsible Gaming Education Week is mostly being targeted at land based casinos, their main focus this year is "Taking the Mystery Out of the Machine." All those casinos that are participating in the special week have taken it upon themselves to educate their patrons and employees specifically about how slot machines work, and also about how other casino games work. This also includes how the odds of casino games are worked out, since understanding how things work, especially the odds, is one of the keys to responsible gaming. Slot machines, and gaming in general are often misunderstood, and this week, the American Gaming Association is attempting to clear up many of the common misconceptions that exist. The brochure is being distributed as part of the Responsible Education Gaming Week.
For those who play their casino games online, information regarding "Taking the Mystery Out of the Machine: A Guide to Understanding Slot Machines" can be found online at www.americangaming.org. This brochure, which has been made available in a number of land based gambling institutions, is also available at the link for those who gamble online.
The President and Chief Executive Officer of the American Gaming Association, Frank Fahrenkopf said: "Casino patrons consistently say that slot machines are their favorite game, but most people know very little about how slots are developed or how they work." He continued to note: "This new resource will go a long way toward addressing this knowledge gap and correcting the most widely held misconceptions about gaming machines."
The Responsible Gaming Education Week was first done in 1998. It began as part of the Responsible Gaming National Education Campaign, which was started by the American Gaming Association.
Online casinos are aware of the difficulties that problem gamblers have, and have a number of steps in place in order to help those that struggle with these issues. Education is one of the keys to helping people to stay in control when they are gambling online.
