Microgaming Drops Online Casino
May 22, 2009 | News Category: Casino Software
Microgaming was one of the last online casino software providers who left the United States after the UIGEA (Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act) was passed. Recently, one of the Microgaming powered online casinos, Intertops Casino, decided to find a solution in which they would be able to, once again, market their online casino to United States players.
In their move to re-enter the US market, Intertops Casino created a two-casino system which would offer the same kind of online casino, with different casino software to the US market and to the rest of the world. Intertops had planned to continue to use Microgaming software to operate one part of their online casino, which would be called the Green Casino. The Red Casino would be the division offered to US players.
The Red Casino, which runs on Real Time Gaming software, would welcome US players back to Intertops. Real Time Gaming stayed in the US when many other software companies gave into the pressure from the US government and pulled out of the US, preventing casino players from signing up with and playing at their Internet casinos. US customers would be able to play only in the Red Casino, while the rest of the world would be welcome at both the Red Casino and the Green Casino.
Unfortunately for Intertops Casino, Microgaming was not pleased with the two-casino system that they devised, and has chosen to end their long-term relationship with the online casino. Michl Posch, the head of marketing for Intertops said in a statement that "Intertops Casino is proud to have been powered by such a reputable, market-leading, gaming software provider over the past decade."
Microgaming's decision was made because they were not able to accept Intertops Casino's insistence on accepting United States players. It is likely that the decision made by Microgaming was taken because the online casino software company hope to return to the US market in the future. At this time, with possible radical changes underway in the United States regarding Internet gambling, Microgaming would want to keep their slate as clean as possible with the US government, so that nothing would negatively affect them when they get the chance to apply for a license in the future.
Microgaming has every intention of trying to re-enter the US market when online casino legislation is passed, and they would be making every effort to keep Congress happy until the time comes.
