Although work still needs to be done to test whether this helpful new machine can be adapted for use in online casinos, it is already apparent that it can be helpful to those in land based casinos. The device is named the Responsible Gaming Device, and is being marketed to casinos as Gameplan.
The Canadian gaming company, TechLink, is currently in the process of introducing a device that may well be able to assist those with problem gambling tendencies to control their gaming time. The device will help these players to keep losses under control, and will also help to control gambling urges. Players will have the tools needed to enter information and various options, which will help them to avoid compulsive gambling.
When players plug in their personal devices into any of the participating machines, their chosen information is updated throughout the system, and will help the player to follow their self-imposed restrictions.
Once a player has input the information necessary, including choices regarding how much money may be wagered, and in how long the money may be wagered, loss limits, as well as barring play after certain time levels or loss limits have been reached. Once limits have been reached, the gaming device will simply lock the player out of all participating gambling machines.
Players can also choose the self-exclusion option that is available. Once this option has been chosen, the player will not be able to play at any of the participating gambling machines for between one and three days, depending on the self-exclusion options that had been chosen.
Often, one of the most important things that compulsive gamblers need is a simple reality check. The device helps players to have this reality check since they can keep track of their losses and general money management by using this device. Wagers can be tracked and rules for responsible gaming can then be followed according to the player’s own pre-made decisions. Once players have reached their time or their loss limits, they can be blocked from continuing their gambling session.
The new device is currently being used for Video Lottery Terminals by the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation, however, this kind of responsible gaming device may well be effective for online gambling patrons, and could go a long way to assisting those who have gambling addiction problems.
One can hope that this device will be adapted for online casino gambling, since it is already proving helpful for those who are currently using it.
