Harsh Winter Causes Online Casino Boost
March 15, 2010 | News Category: Online Casinos
Atlantic City, and surrounding areas have been having a very harsh winter this year. There have been repeated snowstorms, which have made many roads dangerous to travel on.
Even though Atlantic City casinos were beginning to have a slump due to the difficult economic times that the United States and the rest of the world have been experiencing over the past two year, it seems that the inclement weather has caused their revenue to drop even further. Large and well-known hotels and casinos in Atlantic City, such as the Trump Taj Mahal, and Caesars, have reported that they have had a definite seasonal decline in revenue.
Most of the casino players who frequent casinos in Atlantic City are from New York and Philadelphia areas, which are particularly populous. The number of snowstorms that have occurred around the Atlantic City, New York, and Philly areas has kept many off the dangerous streets, and only going out for essentials.
On the other side of the coin, online casinos may well call the bad weather, the "good" weather! Online casinos have their regular players who frequent one or more online casinos all year round. However, when the weather turns bad, and roads are problematic to travel, online casinos will tend to get a boost in revenue.
Simply, those players that were looking forward to their land-based gambling sessions will most likely still wish to relax and play some slots, or whichever games they had hoped to play in Atlantic City’s land-based casinos. With the great choice of online casinos that area available, players simply played from home, instead of risking their lives to get to Atlantic City.
It is also likely that players may have played for longer periods of time than they usually would have, since being stuck at home during a snowstorm certainly allows boredom to set in. Those players that would usually play in land-based casinos, and those that would usually play in online casinos would all be likely to increase their online casino playing if stuck at home during a snowstorm.
During the stormy weather, many online casinos found that the number of players playing in their online casinos during a storm rose substantially. In fact, there was even a small study done, which showed that each time there was a bad snowstorm, the number of players playing at certain online casino sites would increase by as much as twenty to thirty percent in the areas that were particularly affected by the storms.
