French Conferences to Discuss the Open Online Gambling Market
March 17, 2011 | News Category: Gaming Law
The French online gambling market was the talk of the online gambling world nearly a year ago, when the French government chose to liberalize their online gambling market, and open it up to foreign online gambling operators.
The French online gambling market is regulated by ARJEL. At the time that foreign online gambling companies were able to start applying to operate out of France, there were a number of the bigger companies that chose to stay away citing the high taxation and difficult restrictions that they would have had to follow had they joined the French online gambling market.
There will be two conferences later this month that will be looking closely at the online gambling market. There will be debates and discussions surrounding the issue of the online gambling market's liberalization and any consequences that have been experienced.
The first will take place on March 22nd at the Maison de la Chimie in Pariis. The French Minister of Budget, Civil Service and State Reform, Public Accounts, François Baroin will be supporting this initiative, who will in turn be supported by the senator, François Trucy, and his deputy, Jean-François Lamour.
The company, ARJEL will be the main focus of the debate at this gathering. Issues that will be covered include the enforcement of procedures, the approval of procedures, and the online gambling licensing criteria, as well as some other key issues.
From what insiders have been saying, by the end of 2011, a more decisive and definitive process will take place in which all aspects will be looked at regarding the liberalization initiative of online gambling that would examine issues such as regulation, taxation, and the social impact of online gambling.
The second conference will take place on March 25th - 26th, at the Marriott Hotel Neuilly. This conference is being run by iGaming France, and will be a place where players in the French online gambling market can meet with each other and network. The emphasis is therefore a more business-minded and professional scene than the earlier conference that is mostly based around legislation and issues that would concern the French government.
There will be high level and senior online gambling executives at this conference that will come from various companies as well as from some media groups. There will be top players from the French and foreign associations, as well as those who head up regulatory authorities.
In order to give those attending some useful information, the president or ARJEL, Jean-François Vilotte, will be there, along with some officials that are from the French Competition Authority. They will be available to discuss and debate the state of the online gambling market in France, and the economic issues surrounding this market. They will also be on hand to debate fair competition, and risk assessment.
