In order to ensure that their Generally Accepted Practices fall in line with the European Union's regulations, eCOGRA has announced that it will be updating and revising the current set of Generally Accepted Practices.

There have been changes made to nine main points in the Generally Accepted Practices from eCOGRA. The organization currently has more than 150 online gambling sites that use these guidelines as a framework to provide professional services that are safe and fair.

Andrew Beveridge, eCOGRA's Chief Executive Officer, notes that even though there are changes to the CEN Responsible Remote Gambling Measures, they will not only meet European Union standards, but also the standards that have been set by most of the regulatory bodies worldwide.

Mr. Beveridge said: "The regulatory landscape now evolving in Europe has seen a growing number of nations opting for a competitive but strictly regulated online casino gambling market, and decisions are likely to be increasingly informed by the required measures of the CEN Workshop Agreement which were framed earlier this year."

He further explained that by aligning eCOGRA's Generally Accepted Practices with those of the European Union, not only will the organization be keeping up to date with current market trends, it will also mean that other organizations and companies in the online gambling market will also be able to use this framework to ensure that they meet regulatory requirements in the European Union and other locations.

Some of the main areas covered by the European Committee for Standardization came out of the CEN Workshop, and include privacy protection, fair gaming, combating fraud, responsible marketing, and the always not topic of underage online gambling.

The changes that will bring eCOGRA in line with the European Union's recommendations come from operators, problem gambling experts, and other interested parties in the online gambling world. The CEN Workshop was held in order to facilitate a single European Union online gambling industry.

Mr. Beveridge noted: "Operators who have achieved eCOGRA seal status should comply with the latest developments for CEN Responsible Remote Gambling Measures."

eCOGRA, the eCommerce and Online Gaming Regulation and Assurance organization, is the well known non-profit company that sets online gambling industry regulations for player protection. The London-based organization gives guidelines for the best operational practice for online gambling sites, and also awards companies with certification and the eCOGRA seal of approval, amongst other things. The company has recently undergone a management takeover, and has now been separated from its main founding company, Microgaming.
