Bodog Purchased Slots.com

A couple of months ago, the online gambling world was wondering how much the domain name slots.com would be sold for. The domain name was up for auction, and those who were speculating on how much it would be sold for guessed anywhere between $25,000 and $1,000,000.

One could say that even though those that guessed at a million were closer than those that guessed it would be sold for $25,000, neither of these numbers are even close to what the domain slots.com was bought for! Other domains that were sold for very high prices, such as casino.com, which went for $5.5 million, and poker.com, which sold for $10 million, were expected to be far and away worth more than slots.com. The news then broke that the domain name was sold for a total of $5.5 million, although the name of the buyer was not immediately disclosed.

More recently, the name of the buyer finally became public. Slots.com was bought by the Canadian billionaire, Calvin Ayre, on behalf of BodogBrand.com. Ayre is the founder of the BodogBrand group.

Ayre is very well known in the online gambling world, and was delighted to share that he had bid for the slots.com domain name while sitting on a bar stool in London. He so much wanted to purchase the domain name that he was thrilled to have his $5.5 million offer accepted.

Ayre knows just how important domain names can be, since he had lost the Bodog.com domain name in 2007. Bodog then used the domain NewBodog.com, and also BodogLife.com, however, Ayre managed to get Bodog.com back in June last year.

Ayre was extremely pleased with his purchase. He said: “After Casino.com, we feel that Slots.com is the best gaming domain in the world.” He also commented on why he feels that slots.com is such a good domain name, saying: “Bigger even than Poker.com because there are no strong brands in this space and slots are far more universal than poker. Just look at the amount of space an online casino devotes to slots over poker, added to which it's simple to spell and easy to remember.”

No one can dispute that slots are more popular than other online casino games. The word “slots” gets more than six million searches every month on the Google search engine.

Ayre went on to explain: “Slots.com will work for us on a number of levels, not least in generating global traffic to our Bodog branded properties, but also to form a number of other targeted websites including one that will be created by and for the female gambler.”
