Although it is very unusual for Atlantic City casinos to close their doors, sometimes decisions are taken out of necessity. In this case, the casinos are being closed because of the Hurricane Irene warnings. This is only the third time in the history of Atlantic City casinos that they will be closed.

When casinos close their doors, it means that millions of dollars are lost, and also those who had planned to spend the weekend relaxing and gambling are now unable to do so. Safety, of course, must come first, even if it means that your leisure plans have to not only be put on hold, but canceled altogether.

The decision to close these land based casinos was made on Friday afternoon, when officials from all eleven of the Atlantic City casinos met and discussed the issue with fire and safety officials. The advice to close the casinos simply needed to be followed, as it was a decision that was simply taken out of their hands because of natural causes.

Governor Chris Christie told the casinos that they needed to be closed by 11am on Saturday, however, all eleven Atlantic City casinos had already closed their doors by 8pm on Friday night. Most of the casinos also evacuated their hotels, while some did not, saying that they did not want to throw their patrons out into the street, leaving people stranded, and each having to find their own place of safety. Instead they opted to keep just the hotels and restaurants open.

For those players who live out of the area of possible danger from Hurricane Irene, they may well return to their homes. Those who are members of online casinos might have had their plans changed, but they can still spend the weekend doing what they had wanted to do, to relax and gamble.

Instead of traveling to a land based casino, and having to deal with dangerous weather conditions, some casino players always make the choice to gamble from the comfort of their own homes. Not only are dangerous weather conditions avoided, the time and effort of traveling to the land based casino is also eliminated, leaving more time to engage in one of their favorite activities - online gambling.

The reasons for playing casino games in an online establishment, rather than in a land based casino establishment are many, including those noted above.

Casino players all over the United States are amongst those who are hoping and praying for the safety of all the people that are affected by Hurricane Irene.
