A $74,000 Online Slot Mistake
May 10, 2010 | News Category: Slots
In Melbourne, Australia, a housewife played some free slot games online. Well, more accurately, she thought she was playing them for free, but had mistakenly played them for real money and won $74,070.
The 43-year-old housewife, 'Lisa,' often played free games online, but this time, by mistake, she had logged onto her husband’s online casino account. When she realized that she was playing for real money, and that she had won over $70,000 she immediately called her husband to share the good news.
Lisa had already racked up $920 in winnings after only playing what she had thought were free games in twenty minutes of play. The mother of two was very excited when she called to tell her husband, although he was shocked at first. After the shock wore off, he too was excited, and the couple went out to celebrate their win.
Usually, online casinos are quite strict about who is allowed to play from an online casino account. In fact, in most circumstances, the rules are quite clear that only the player who has signed up for the online casino account may access it and use it. In this case, however, it is not really clear what the rules of the online casino in question were, however, needless to say, they did pay up, so perhaps the rules of the online casino had not been violated.
Either way, the online casino has probably gained more than enough publicity by this honest mistake. The winners are certainly not complaining, and the winner was certainly of legal age to gamble online. When Lisa was asked about this exciting win, the housewife said, "I definitely won’t be quitting my job as a mom. This is something I want to do no matter what. Having the extra money though will certainly make things easier for us now."
Online casino slot players, and in fact, those who play any games online for real money, can learn an important lesson from this. While this story turned out for the good, and the mistake resulted in a win for the online casino account holder, this is not always the case. Most online casinos are quite strict about enforcing that only the player that is registered with the online casino can win.
On the flip side, players should remember to ensure that they are logged off and that they have not left their personal log-in information lying around because it is just as easy for an unauthorized player to lose you lots of money by mistake, when they think they are playing free games, as it is to win.
