Review of the Tomb Raider
Unless you have been living under a rock for the last decade, you've encountered Tomb Raider somewhere along the line. I've played them all, but the second one remains my firm favorite at least, it's the one I've re-played the most.
My long term immersion in the Tomb Raider paradigm made me somewhat skeptical about whether Tomb Raider would translate as a video slot, so I approached it with some trepidation. However, I am happy to report that my fears were groundless this is a top notch piece of software, and with Microgaming behind it, it could hardly be anything else.
This is a 5 reel video slot with 15 different pay lines. Old school slots players will tend to run just the center line, but the whole point of multi-reel slots is that you can radically increase your odds of hitting something by activating extra lines.
You will get to join Lara Croft on another tomb raiding adventure to pillage artifacts from some ancient grave or other. Visually this appears to be the Lara Croft that appeared in the first movie, and this is born out by the graphics.
The high playing cards that appear in these sorts of games are done in "new Lara" chunky raised font the styling that's been used in the games ever since the Angel of Darkness episode. The other symbols that you can expect to see on the reels include a rather fetching Lara Croft avatar, a big scary looking god statue, and that twirly triangular artifact from the film it was in 3 bits, remember?
There's plenty of glorious animation and sound, and the overall playing experience is almost as addictive as the original Playstation game was. This is a fully featured video slot title, of a quality you have come to expect from Microgaming, which has something of everything: great graphics, solid game-play, wild symbols, scatter symbols and even a bonus game.
This game has since spawned a sequel that has been about as wildly successful as this one, but the original Tomb Raider game remains a fixture at most Microgaming-based online casinos worldwide.
Wild Symbol:
The logo for Tomb Raider acts as the wild symbol for this game. You know the drill by now wild symbols complete winning combinations. In Tomb Raider, the wild symbol does not have a multiplying effect, however. Just to mix things up, that distinction is held by the Scatter symbol.
Scatter Symbol:
Yup, the scatter symbol works a little differently in this game. The Scatter is Lara herself, and three or more of her triggers the free spins feature.
She's also also worth money in that 5 Laras is a jackpot payout on its own. However, Lara also has a general multiplying effect.
Let's say you win something on a normal combination. If any Lara symbols are visible anywhere on any lines or reels she doesn't need to appear on an activated line or as part of a combo then your win is multiplied by the number of visible Laras. Sweet or what?
Free Spins:
Three or more Laras triggers 10 free spins. During free spin mode, all winnings are multiplied by 3, and if any scatters show up during that time, you get even more free spins.
Bonus Round:
The bonus game is triggered by 3 or more scare idols. During the bonus game, you find yourself inside an ancient temple, with a bunch of idols sitting about. Each idol is hiding a cash amount click three to reveal what they're sitting on, and that's how many coins you've just won.
