To Download or Not to Download, That is the Question

Novice online casino players are not always sure which is the better option, download or no download software. To begin with, it is important to understand what the two options that are available.

Downloaded software is downloaded from a casino site and is saved on the hard drive of the user's computer. When playing with downloaded software, the user's internet connection will "talk" to the online casino in order to use the information that is already stored on the computer itself.

The no download software is not stored on the computers hard drive. • Usually only works on Windows computers, thereby excluding Mac and Linux users
  
  
• The initial download may take a long time.
  
  
• Because of high caliber software, the minimum system requirements are greater than for no download software.
  
  
• The user needs to own the computer or have permission to download the information to the computer. This option does not work for shared computers, such as may be found in hotels or other public venues.

No Download Casinos:

Pros

• No long-term memory storage space is required on the hard disc.
  
  
• Although there is some download time, the initial download is quicker, which means that players can get up and running very quickly.
  
  
• Works on all types of computers, including Mac, Linux and Windows.
  
  
• Players using computers that are not their own are able to login and play their favorite games wherever they are in the world, without having to download anything onto the physical computer they are using at the time.

Cons

• Although shorter download time, this needs to be done each time the user wishes to play. Play will not begin instantly, and could take a minute or more to download the information to the browser each time play begins.
  
  
• A number of features and games offered in the download version are unavailable in this version.
  
  
• Graphics, while fairly good nowadays, are not of the same quality as they are for download casinos.
  
  
• There may be more disruptions affecting the smooth running of the game, and recovery can be difficult if the Internet connection is lost for any reason.
  
  
• Security, if playing on a public computer, is more risky. Players should ensure that their login details are not compromised.
