The Different Blackjack Variations
May 06, 2010 | Article Category: Blackjack
There are a number of blackjack variations that can be found at both online casinos and at land based casinos. Some casinos will only offer one blackjack variant, while others will give players the choice of a few.
There are some blackjack variations that have some unusual and unexpected rules such as the dealer not going bust when reaching a total of 22 points. This unusual rule is found in Blackjack Switch, which is a blackjack variation in which players are each dealt two hands, and are allowed to switch their top cards.
Blackjack players will find variations such as Blackjack Switch, Atlantic City Blackjack, Blackjack Bonus, Spanish Blackjack, Pontoon, and more!
Before beginning play at a blackjack table in any casino, be it online or offline, players should ensure that they have read the rules of the game. This is not only necessary in order to learn what the version of the game being played is, but also to learn if there are any specific house rules or regulations that need to be adhered to.
The basic concept of blackjack is to get either 21, or the highest value nearest to 21 without going over that number, unless of course there is a specific rule that has been added in to the game, such as the rule in Blackjack Switch, where the dealer may get a 22. Players do not have the same rule in Blackjack Switch as the dealers do. In fact, the dealer’s 22 rule seems to be fairly unique as blackjack variations go.
Players are each dealt two cards, with the best hand being a blackjack, or pontoon, in that version of the game. A blackjack is a hand that contains an Ace and a 10 value card, which means that an Ace and any of the face cards or tens will bring the player to a total of 21.
There are various rules about when to stand, and when to hit, but in most cases, these rules apply to the dealers, and not the players, however, it is always important to understand both what you need to do, and what the significance of the dealer’s cards are.
Basic blackjack is an enjoyable and exciting game. Having a number of different variations to choose from when you want to spice up your game will add a new dimension to your blackjack playing, and will keep you on your toes.
When trying out a new blackjack variation, remember that you can practice by using free online blackjack games before you use real money to play.
