Introduction

Although the rules in roulette tournaments played in online casinos will differ somewhat from casino to casino, the basic rules or guidelines will be fairly similar. Players will need to check if their favorite online casinos offer roulette tournaments since they are still fairly new in the online gaming world, and not all online casinos offer them at this time.

Starting and Ending Times of Roulette Tournaments

When looking for a tournament, online casinos will publish both the starting and the ending times of the tournament, which could be as little as a couple of hours, and could last for a number of weeks.

The Buy-In

Unless the tournament is a special free promotion, players will have to pay a buy-in or entry fee in order to join the tournament. After signing up for the tournament and paying the buy-in fee, each player is given the same number of chips with which they can begin play as soon as the tournament begins.

Re-Buys

For those players who run out of chips before the end of the tournament, there is usually an option for a re-buy, which allows players to pay a fee (usually the same amount as the buy-in, unless the tournament was free to begin with), after which they will receive more chips which can be used to continue play.

Playing Time

Players are usually given a set amount of time in which to play, for example 90 minutes. They do not have to play for the entire time that is allocated to them in one go. Most tournaments allow players to break up their playing time. Players who feel that they have accumulated enough chips and do not wish to continue play, and possibly risk losing them, may stop play at any time that they wish to. The final result is based on the number of chips the players have left at the end of the tournament, not on how long a player played for.

The Last Spin

If a player is in the middle of their final spin when the tournament ends, most online casinos will allow the player to finish that spin, and include the results with their winnings.

The Betting

Betting operates in the same way that it does for a regular roulette game. The payoffs range from as much as 35 to 1 for betting a single number to 1 to 1 for certain bets such as the high or low bet, the red or black bet, and the odd or even bet. There are various other possible bets, such as the split at 17 to 1, the trio at 11 to 1, the corner at 8 to 1, the 4 numbers bet at 9 to 1, the street bet at 11 to 1, the line bet at 5 to 1, and the dozen and the column bets at 2 to 1.

Players may place any bets they choose, following whichever strategy they prefer, although they should bear in mind the length of the tournament when choosing a strategy.
