Online Casino Etiquette
February 03, 2009 | Article Category: Online Casinos
While many casino gamblers choose to play in online casinos instead of land-based casinos because they prefer to be relaxed in their own homes, this does not negate the need for etiquette.
Land-based casinos throw out players who get drunk and rowdy, and while this will not happen in an online casino, it is appropriate to play games with the other players in mind. Of course, in games that are played solo, like slots, as long as you are not in a chat room, you are not restricted by anything. It is player vs software, and no people enter into the equation. Players can rant and rave when they lose, as long as the people around them at home have no problem with it.
Live dealer games, multi-player games, and online player support all fall into the category in which etiquette is important. It is certainly appropriate to treat all these people, albeit online, with dignity and respect. Not only is it better for those that you are playing against, but also that you will be more focused and find it easier to concentrate if you are not using your energy to be disrespectful and rude.
- If you're feeling angry and are ready to "shout" at all your online opponents, remember that you have the choice. The best thing you could do in this situation, is to push back your chair, walk away for a few moments, and take some deep breaths before returning to the game.
- Always remember, when playing against real people, that most online casino players form part of a real community. There is nothing wrong with playing an aggressive game, if that is your style, however, all aggression should be left behind when playing live, interactive games, with real people.
- Timely play is expected. While it is known that players need some time to consider their next moves, it is certainly expected to take those moves in a timely manner. Should you need to leave the computer for any reason, the most appropriate way to handle it would be to sit out the next hand or round.
- When using the chat feature, abstain from using profanities, criticizing fellow players, and if at all possible, it's best if you don't tell bad jokes. If other players choose not to chat with you, simply accept it and don't push them to do so. You may not want to chat with someone else at a later date and will hope for the same respect. Do remember not to type in ALL CAPS LETTERS AS THIS IMPLIES THAT YOU ARE SHOUTING AT SOMEONE, OR THAT YOU ARE ANGRY WITH THEM.
- When chatting with other online casino players, chat in the language of the casino. If English is the main language, then that would be the only appropriate language, unless playing at a foreign-language table within the casino.
- Use the free play option until you know the game well enough to keep up with other players, as the pace in online casinos can be quite fast. It is bad etiquette to keep other players waiting while you check up on the rules.
