Land Based Gambling Supporters and Online Casino Supporters

For those who pretend to be on some kind of moral high horse and try to ban online casinos, while they have no problem with land based gambling, it should be blatantly obvious that they have (not so hidden) agendas. Yet, somehow, this is often missed by the media, and also by legislators.
The politicians spend much time arguing whether online gambling should be allowed because of moral reasons, and because of possible gambling addictions, and other social reasons. While these reasons may be applicable in some instances, on the whole, studies have shown that online gambling problem gamblers are fewer than those who gamble in land based casinos and other gambling locations.
Even without looking at the studies about how online gambling may affect those who make use of it, there are other interesting factors to look at. There are many countries or states, both in the United States, and in the European Union, that are attempting to ban online gambling for "moral" or "social" reasons. Many of these countries, however, offer one or more forms of land based gambling.
While lotteries may be seen as somewhat different to offering other forms of online gambling, horse racing, for example is certainly addictive for some, and many have been known to lose their homes and more while betting on horse races. Countries or states that offer sports betting, such as horse racing, while often pleading that they do not wish their residents or citizens to be able to gamble online for moral or ethical reasons, simply gloss over the fact that they allow addictive land based gambling to be offered inside their borders.
It is simply obvious to those that look at the greater picture that their desire to ban online gambling has nothing to do with the nature of online gambling, but simply as a protectionist measure in order to keep the land based betting at a high level, without distractions from exciting forms of gambling, such as online casinos.
There have been some moves from land based casinos towards starting online casinos, however, this has taken some time to begin, and is off to a slow start. Understandably, in the US, the current online gambling legislation does not give land based casinos the freedom to make the choice of taking their offerings online right now, however, even if the situation was different legally, it is unclear whether more land based casinos would be interested in also operating online.
Instead of joining a fast growing industry, the land based casinos would often rather hold fast to the past, rather than move into the present and look into the future, where most things in life are simply moving online if they are not there already.
