Distractions and Online Gambling

Distractions - something the land-based casinos excel at! The question is, are they good or bad for the players?
In land-based casinos, there is no question that the distractions, such as the sounds, the flashing lights, and the sexy card dealers, are not good for players. This is not the optimal condition in which most people can concentrate. When gambling in a casino, what the player needs to do, is concentrate. Lack of concentration can cause mistakes, such as placing a bet in the wrong place. It is difficult for most people to think clearly when there are distractions all around them. Players could even make an incorrect decision in blackjack, and other card and table games, when there are too many distractions around.
Distractions when playing at home at your favorite online casino can be just as frustrating, and can also result in mistakes being made. It is very important to give yourself the time, and enough quiet, to concentrate on your betting decisions, and also on playing the online casino games correctly.
Players can make a choice as to when they would like to chat in online casino chat rooms, or with other players in private chats. Do not be rude to your online casino friends, but never feel obligated to chat when you need to be concentrating on an important online gaming decision.
While it may seem so far that all distractions are negative when it comes to both land-based and online gambling, there are those that cite certain distractions as positive ones for online gamblers.
In land-based gambling, players are almost in a time-warp. There are no clocks on the walls to show players the time, and no windows to show the changes in light outside. The casino is kept at a constant temperature, and has the same lighting no matter what time of the day or night it is. Even though there are great distractions, the land-based casinos are designed to keep players inside, and gambling continuously.
It has been said of online casinos, and is supported by studies into the matter, that those playing in online casinos have less chance of forming a gambling addiction than those who play in land-based casinos. One of the reasons given for this is that the distractions of one’s daily life prevent players from getting so involved in what they are doing, that all else is excluded, as it is in land-based casinos.
The ring of a telephone, checking e-mail, a child or a spouse calling, the sound of cars outside, a favorite pet coming to say hello, and other distractions that are similar, all help players to stay anchored in this world, and not end up in a fantasy world, as they would when playing in land-based casinos.
Back to the question as to whether distractions are good or bad for online casino players. They can be both good and bad, so the best thing to do is find a balance between bad distractions and good distractions!
