Casino Bankroll Management Tips
February 01, 2009 | Article Category: Casino Banking
Often, the fine line which exists between players who win, and players who don't win is simply connected to which players have good bankroll management, and which don't. A number of online casino players win money during their gaming sessions, only to lose it by continuing play until all the winnings are used up. Good bankroll management will not help players to win more money, but simply to hold onto money they win and not to waste money they cannot afford to use.
Realistic Look at Your Finances:
Before beginning any gaming session, it is very important that you assess your financial position and make an educated decision regarding how much money can be set aside, within the framework of your budget, for gambling. Never bet with money that is earmarked for another purpose, such as rent or bills, as there are no guarantees of winning, whether the games you choose are skill-based or luck-based games. Never place bets with money that does not belong to you.
Divide According to Number of Gaming Sessions:
Once you have established how much money you have available for gambling, decide on when it needs to be used. Should you be going to a land-based casino for a few days, divide the amount up between the days you plan to be there. For online casino gambling, it is important to ensure that you know in advance how many days you plan to gamble each month, be it four times, eight times, or daily. Once that decision has been made, divide the amount of money set aside for gambling by the number of gaming sessions you have chosen. NOTE: Do not exceed your daily self-imposed bankroll budget as it is easy to 'blow it all' in one session.
Set Aside Some Winnings:
While it is understandable that most players will not want to set aside all their winnings, it is also reasonable to decide what percentage of winnings should be set aside in order to come out with a profit. Setting aside around 50% of your profits should leave you with some money in your 'pocket' and enough extra to continue enjoying your gaming session somewhat longer.
While the money management principles are the same for both online and land-based gambling, each has its own challenges. When using this system offline, players can simply put half their winnings in a separate pocket, or simply remove them physically from the place they keep their playing chips. Playing online, there is nowhere to move the 'chips' to, therefore making it important to use more self-control and stay aware of where your bankroll is holding at any given time. It is important not to simply top-up your account, or buying more chips, using your credit card both online and offline. While this is very easy to do and can be achieved in seconds, it is better to keep control at all times.
Losing Streaks:
Do not think that by increasing wagers in the middle of a losing streak, that you will recoup your losses. Either play minimum bets, or quit the gaming session and come back another time.
Check the House Edge:
Unless you have unlimited money with which to play, it is wisest to check the house edge and pick only the games that the house edge is in your favor. Do not set yourself up to lose if you cannot afford it!
Conclusion:
Most of what you need to do is avoid temptation and practice self-control. While this is easier said than done, it is worth working hard to achieve these objectives.
