Blackjack Tournaments - Single Table vs. Multi-Table Tournaments
June 27, 2009 | Article Category: Blackjack
There are two types of blackjack tournaments offered in most online casinos. They fall into two categories: single table blackjack tournaments and multiple table blackjack tournaments. The rules of blackjack used to play in both the single and multi-table tournaments are essentially the same. The main difference is the way in which players move from one level to another, and from one round to another.
Single Table Blackjack Tournaments
These one-round tournaments have different player options, which vary depending on which casino, or which tournament is being played in. Options usually include how many decks of cards are used, how many hands will be played, the house fee, and how much the buy-in is if there is one.
After registration, play begins, and as each round is finished, the player who has earned the most chips at the table wins, based on the specific rules of the tournament they have entered.
Rules for Single Table Blackjack Tournaments
- A set number of hands will be played during the tournament.
- 2 to 8 players will be allowed to play in each game.
- Between one and eight card decks are used.
- The winning players are paid out all the buy-in fees, minus the service fee (usually about 10%), which goes to the casino.
- Games begin at either specific times, or when the table has been filled.
- Players may wager between a pre-determined minimum and maximum limit allowed for each hand.
- Players aim to win the most chips they can in each round in order to win the game.
- Once the dealer knows who is in the game, s/he will shuffle and deal one card to each player. The player with the highest card goes first.
Multi-Table Blackjack Tournaments
In multi-table blackjack tournaments, players compete against each other, and not against the dealer or the house. The game works on an elimination basis, with the winners moving to the next level after each round.
The number of players in the multi-table blackjack tournament will determine the number of rounds that are played. Winners could go from the first round to a quarter-final round, on to a semi-final round, and then on to the final round.
Rules for Multi-Table Blackjack Tournaments
- Online casino blackjack tournaments will always have a pre-decided number of hands that will be played.
- Between 6 and 8 players are usually playing at each table.
- Players aim to win the most chips they can in each round in order to move on to the next round.
- Once the dealer knows who is in the game, s/he will shuffle and deal one card to each player. The player with the highest card goes first.
