Blackjack Switch - Two-Handed Blackjack
June 13, 2010 | Article Category: Blackjack
What is Blackjack Switch?
Blackjack Switch is an unusual variation of blackjack. Players are dealt not one, but two blackjack hands. The game is called Blackjack Switch because players are then allowed to switch between the top two cards of each hand that has been dealt. Although players that feel they have been dealt strong blackjack hands do not have to switch any cards, those players that want to switch the top cards in order to give them a stronger blackjack hand may do so. It is important to remember when switching the cards that the player does have to play both hands, and cannot only play only one of the two hands.
Blackjack Switch Rules
Blackjack Switch is played according to the same rules as regular blackjack, with only a few differences. Although the basic game is the same, the changes in the rules make for an exciting blackjack variation.
- Cards for all the player hands are dealt face up. All these cards are dealt at the beginning of the game.
- Each player will have two hands of two cards each. The player needs to place two bets that are equal to each other.
- At this point in time, the player will switch their top cards, if they wish to do so, in order to make two good blackjack hands, if that is possible. Note: The top card is the second card that has been dealt to each hand.
- After the switch is completed, each hand is played out in the same way a single handed blackjack hand would be played, including splitting, doubling, and any betting that still needs to take place.
- When the dealer has a soft blackjack hand (a blackjack hand that includes an Ace), he must hit on a soft 17.
- There is one particularly unusual rule in Blackjack Switch that is not found in other versions of blackjack. When the dealer has a hand with a total that is equal to 22, which is usually a bust in other versions of blackjack, the rule of Blackjack Switch is that this hand ties or pushes all other hands in the game. It is important to remember that this rule only applies to the dealer’s hand, and not to the player’s hand. If a player gets to a total of 22, their hand will bust, as it would in other versions of blackjack.
