As you probably realize from the name of this blackjack variation, Atlantic City Blackjack originated in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The rules of the New Jersey Gaming Commission require all casinos based in New Jersey to follow these blackjack rules, and should they wish to change them in any way, the casino needs to apply to the Gaming Commission. Atlantic City Blackjack rules can be found in a number of online casinos too.

Dealer Rules in Atlantic City Blackjack

The dealer hand stands when the hand total is equal to 17 through 21. The dealer hand draws, or hits, when the hand total is equal to 16 or less points. When the dealer deals the cards, the second dealer card is dealt face down, a hole card. If the dealer’s face up card is either a 10, Jack, Queen, King, or Ace, it means that it is possible for the dealer to get blackjack when turning up their hole card. If one of these cards is dealt face up, the dealer peaks at his hole card. If the dealer does in fact have 21, a blackjack, then play for that round is halted. Players who have a natural blackjack at this point in time will have tied with the dealer, and simply receive their wager back. Players who do not have blackjack then lose their bets, without incurring further losses as can happen in other blackjack variations.

Player Rules in Atlantic City Blackjack

Atlantic City Blackjack allows players to split their hands three times. This means that it is possible to play up to four hands if you split the hands the maximum number of times allowed. When two Aces have been split, players may draw one more card for each Ace. Aces may not be re-split. When splitting the cards that have a value of ten, as in the 10, Jack, Queen, and King, you may split any two 10-value cards that have been dealt to the same hand. These cards to not have to be the same to split them. For example, a Queen and a ten can be split. Players can choose to double down on both regular and on split hands.

Why Play Atlantic City Blackjack?

The main advantage that players have in Atlantic City Blackjack is that the dealer looks at his hole card. When the dealer gets a blackjack, and play is stopped, the players are saved from losing money unnecessarily.
