There are many online roulette players out there who know and understand the basics of the game, but are perhaps missing a few details. When one thinks of a roulette wheel, most will immediately visualize a round wheel, with alternating colors in narrow wedges, and numbers at the end of each wedge. In land based roulette, a little ball will be spun and will land on one of the numbers, and in online roulette, a virtual ball will do so, powered by a Random Number Generator. Read on to find out more about the roulette wheel.

American Roulette and European Roulette Wheels

There are two types of roulette wheels, the American Roulette wheel, and the European Roulette wheel. The American Roulette wheel has both the single zero ‘0’ and the double zero ’00,’ while the European Roulette wheel has only the single zero on its wheel, and no double zero.

Numbers Found on a Roulette Wheel

The numbers that are found on a roulette wheel go up to the number 36. However, there are more than 36 spaces found on the roulette wheel. European Roulette wheels have 37 spaces, because the numbers begin at zero, and go up until number 36, and American Roulette wheels have 38 spaces because they begin with double zero, and then zero. The American Roulette wheel begins as follows: 00, 0, 1, 2, 3… 36, and the European Roulette wheel is as follows: 0, 1, 2, 3… 36.

It is important to remember that the numbers on a roulette wheel are not sequential, which means that you will not find the numbers in counting order on the wheel. The zero and the double zero, when both are present on the roulette wheel, are usually found opposite each other.

Roulette Wheel Colors

The two main colors that are found on a roulette wheel are red and black. The red and black colors are used in an alternating pattern as long narrow wedges spreading from the center of the roulette wheel towards the edges. First a red wedge from center to the outside, and then a black one, and so on. Players will also usually see a green wedge or two, which are the wedges that contain the zero, and the double zero spaces.

It is, of course, possible to find roulette wheels that make use of other colors, however, the basic, standard roulette wheel is usually found in these three colors.
