In Elimination Blackjack, the players do not play only against the house, but against the house and other players at the same time. This adds a very exciting element into blackjack tournaments.

Generally, when playing Elimination Blackjack, a full round is thirty hands long. Although the number of starting chips varies, the number of chips per player is the same at the beginning of the game.

Players are eliminated from the blackjack tournament in the following instances:

  • The player does not have enough chips left that will meet the minimum bet that is needed for a hand.

  • When a player has lost all the allocated chips, they are not allowed to rebuy another batch of chips, and are simply eliminated from the tournament.

  • There are usually three elimination rounds. These elimination rounds take place, at most casinos, on rounds 8, 16, and 25. At each of these hands, the player with the least chips left is eliminated from the game. Even if players have been eliminated in the few rounds before, one player is always eliminated in an elimination hand.

The winner of the Elimination Blackjack game is the player who is the last one to be left at the blackjack table, or the player with the most chips left at the end of the game.

Although different casinos, and online casinos have slightly different house rules, the basic rules that are followed in Elimination Blackjack are as follows:

  • The game is usually played with six decks of cards in the shoe.

  • There is a maximum number of seven players that are allowed to take part in the Elimination Blackjack tournament.

  • The house must stand on a hard 17 and anything higher than that, and also must hit on a soft 17 and anything that is lower than that.

  • Except for Aces, players are allowed to split their pairs up for a total of four times.

  • Doubling down can only be done with two cards.

  • Players are able to buy insurance on their hands if the dealer’s up card is showing an Ace.

  • Players who wish to surrender the hand may do so, at a loss of half of their original bet that was placed on that hand.

  • The bet that is placed by each player must stay within the minimum and the maximum bet that is allowed at the table.

Most Elimination Blackjack games give players 25 seconds to make their decisions, although when it comes to an elimination hand round, players have 45 seconds to make their decisions.
